The front kick (mae geri) is the most basic kick in karate. It is designed to be used against a target to the front of your body.
- Hit with the ball of the foot. The ankle and foot should be in a straight line.
- The knee is chambered high in front of the body with the kicking foot by the other knee and formed as it should be to hit the target.
- The knee drops in height as the kick extends toward the target.
- The foot snaps back toward the supporting knee after the kick.
- The kicking knee rises back up to the original position.
- Keep the upper body as vertical as possible depending on how high you kick.
Keep the whole kick smooth and graceful throughout the entire execution.
