The Rising Elbow Strike (Age Empi Ate/Age Hiji Uchi) projects it’s power more forward than upward. Like all elbow strikes, it is a close-range weapon and uses body motion to create linear power.
- Keep the shoulders squared off.
- The arm rubs against the rib cage as the elbow rises.
- The strike ends with the elbow on the level of the shoulder. Do not raise it higher since it is usually used to attack torso targets.
- At the end of the strike, the hand is turned so that the fingers face the head.
- Keep the elbow aimed straight forward from the shoulder or slightly toward the the mid-line of the body (seichusen).
